Skydio has rolled out a critical update for its X10 and X10D drones, tackling a rare but serious power loss issue that could occur mid-flight. The update, which applies to the drone, controller, and batteries, ensures safer and more reliable operations — but there’s a catch: you can’t fly unless all your batteries are updated!
What’s the fix?
The issue, first flagged in a Notice to Operators (NTO) on January 31, 2025, was traced to a communication fault in the battery’s management system. This could cause an uncommanded battery reset — definitely not ideal when your drone is in the air. The latest update (version 37.2.72 for the drone and 37.2.32 for the controller) resolves this by improving battery communication.
New: DJI drones now fly from BYD cars — literally!
What you need to do
- Update your drone and controller: Start with the controller, then update your X10 or X10D.
- Update your batteries: Insert each battery into the drone, power it on, and wait 30-60 seconds for the automatic update. Repeat for all batteries.
- Check battery version in Skydio Cloud: After updating, you will be able to check the version of individual batteries in Skydio Cloud. Updated batteries will display firmware version 2.0.2, visible under Settings > Devices > Batteries. It may take 24-48 hours for the updated version to appear.
Important: If you don’t update your batteries, your drone simply won’t take off. Skydio recommends updating all batteries in one batch to avoid disruptions in the field.
Other fixes and improvements
- Better connectivity: Fixed an issue where controllers using Connect SL wouldn’t link to X10 on Channel 144.
- Accurate postflight data: No more “unknown user” errors in telemetry reports.
- Reliable support logs: Upload failures are now a thing of the past.
With these updates, Skydio X10 users can expect smoother flights and fewer headaches. Make sure to update everything before your next mission!
