If you already thought the Insta360 X5 was the most versatile 360-degree camera on the market, wait until you see what’s packed into the company’s brand-new summer update.
While the X5 is already loved for letting creators film everything and reframe later (without worrying about angles or missing moments), Insta360 just turned the dial up several notches. From smarter exposure and longer battery life to brand-new filmmaking tools for motorcyclists and divers, the X5 is stepping confidently into pro territory. Let’s break down what’s new and why creators should care.
AdaptiveTone: Smarter exposure for every angle
One of the biggest pain points for 360 shooters has always been tricky lighting. That’s where Insta360’s new AdaptiveTone tech comes in. Instead of relying on a one-size-fits-all exposure, X5 now records light data independently for both lenses and adjusts based on the user’s final viewing angle.
The result? A dramatic improvement in highlight and shadow detail, especially in those challenging “sunlight-through-a-doorway” kind of shots. AdaptiveTone is available in 8K30fps and 5.7K30fps 360 Video modes, as well as in PureVideo.
PureVideo in Single-Lens Mode
Previously only for 360 videos, Insta360’s low-light wizardry, PureVideo, is now available in Single-Lens Mode. That means creators can enjoy better color fidelity and less noise even in traditional flat videos. Basically, low-light concert filming, nighttime vlogs, or cozy cabin scenes just got an upgrade!
Battery boost: Ultra power for ultra creators
Battery life has gotten a significant makeover too.
- Endurance Mode is now available in 8K, giving you nearly two hours of non-stop, high-res recording.
- At 5.7K24fps, the battery can now stretch to 208 minutes, up from 185.
- And for those who want it all, Insta360 has launched the Ultra Battery, a 2800mAh powerhouse that lasts nearly 4 hours. It costs just $49.99 and is an easy upgrade for frequent shooters.
ND filters and custom lenses: Cinematic control
Creators can now fine-tune motion blur and exposure using the new ND Filter Set (ND16, ND32, ND64). These are the first ND filters made specifically for 360 cameras, giving video a polished, professional look, especially for fast-paced scenes like motorsports.
Also new: the Custom Replacement Lens Kit, which lets users personalize their X5 with AI-generated artwork, personal designs, or fun patterns. Swap lenses in seconds to match your vibe.
Motorcycle filmmaking gets dedicated features
Insta360 is going all-in on the rider crowd with a slew of motorcycle-specific tools:
- X5 BMW Motorrad Edition: A special-edition bundle with BMW branding, custom accessories, and the Ultra Battery pre-installed.
- Mini Remote: Easily control your X5 from the handlebar.
- Immersive Shake Stabilization: Adds just enough shake to give your video a sense of real speed, without the nausea.
- Sena Headset Integration: Start and stop recording, issue voice commands, and record group intercom chatter — hands-free.
- Plate Blur: One tap to automatically blur your license plate in post.
- New GPS Remote with Mic: Combines live preview, GPS, mic, and controls in one compact unit.
Underwater filmmaking upgrades
Divers aren’t left out either. Here’s what’s new
- Invisible Dive Case Pro: For clearer, sharper underwater shots.
- Buoyancy accessory: Makes X5 float in water like a stationary underwater drone.
- AquaVision 3.0: Auto color-correction tool that selects the best color presets for underwater conditions.
- SUUNTO Integration: Overlay dive data like depth and time on your videos, synced from your dive computer.
Faster, smarter editing on desktop and mobile
Insta360 has refined both the desktop Studio software and the mobile app. On desktop, there’s now Quick Preview, so you can glance at clips without opening them fully. Export speeds are faster, and AI Stitching has improved. Meanwhile, the mobile app features a smarter layout and easier editing tools, like preset perspectives and grid views.
Moreover, with Insta360+, you get up to 2TB of storage, auto-backup, and cloud-based editing. And now, X5 owners can access that footage directly from Insta360 Studio, making desktop workflows seamless.
Bonus: Buy and activate an X5 (or the BMW edition) before July 21 and get 200GB of free cloud storage for 6 months!
